Sunlight in the early morning and pre-dusk is especially magical to me. I’m enchanted by the intensity of the light and how it plays off the greenery of the trees and plants at these times. This visual variety of shades and contrasts of light and dark inspired a botanical panel that will remind me of the lush greens of summer all year long.
In this fabulous end-of-summer wall hanging, Judy combines 2/2 twill with discharge dyeing. She walks us through each step of testing yarn, weaving, and adding—okay, removing—a spray of leaves with a stencil and bleach gel.

Lockspinning is one of my favorite art yarn techniques. Yarn spun in this way resembles the sheep, goat, or alpaca you’re spinning. It can be a great way to add texture and a sheepier feel to your projects. In lockspinning, you work with minimally processed locks to preserve their original texture. Here I used mohair and Border Leicester locks, but other longwool breeds work too: try Gotland, Cotswold, Teeswater, Wensleydale and even suri alpaca. I highly suggest mixing breeds and colors, dyed and natural, to add more depth into your art yarn.

Inkle looms are simple looms that allow you to make guitar straps, belts, bookmarks, and so much more. In this class, we will make a set of fun keychains. You will learn the foundations of inkle weaving, from warping the loom to weaving. We’ll weave simple patterns and begin exploring pick-up patterns. This class is for beginning inkle loom weavers—no experience necessary.
The class includes all materials and use of an inkle loom while we meet. If you want to take your loom home, you can purchase it at the end of the class.
